RESTORATION OF

SUNG VILLAGE AND DAO TIEN ETHNIC MINORITY PEOPLE

SUNG VILLAGE AND DAO TIEN ETHNIC MINORITY PEOPLE

Sung Village in Cao Son commune, Da Bac district, Hoa Binh province is the home of the Dao Tien ethnic minority people. After experiencing many ups and downs, the Dao Tien people here still retain their own unique customs and culture. Until now, Dao Tien women can sew clothes for themselves and their family members. The motifs on their costumes are not simply for decoration, but it also contains a certain meaning about the human perspective, the origin history of their ethnic. So in addition to the traditional ways of application, how to apply it to many other materials and still have bold regional characteristics?

MOTIFS IN LIFE OF THE DAO TIEN ETHNIC MINORITY
THE PROCESS OF COLLECTING, RESTORING AND DIGITIZING THE DAO TIEN MOTIF

Through the introduction of Action on Poverty - an Australian non-profit organization, VAN•HOA was able to meet the core and dynamic members of the Sung Village: like Father Minh - who retains words and knows all the important ancient lyrics, Mrs. Mai - Chairman of the cooperative, Mrs. Hang - Head of embroidery workshop, Mrs. Ly Thi Nhat - the most skillful embroiderer in the village...

Thereby, VAN•HOA was told about the "tam giong hoa" - the way a mother transmits her knowledge of ethnic embroideries to her daughter or daughter-in-law in the family. "tam giong hoa" is usually a white square fabric. When embroidered, it is easy to see the embroidery thread. When learning a pattern, the Dao Tien woman in the Sung Village will neatly embroider on white square fabric, so that one day she can pass it on to her children.

Embroidery motifs of the Dao Tien people are passed down through such women.

With the "collective design" method, VAN•HOA was supported by the head of village to organize a community meeting. The Dao Tien women showed the "tam giong hoa" received from their mothers and discuss the meaning of each pattern and teach us how to pronounce the names of the symbols associated with their ethnic.

SYNTHESIS, CLASSIFICATION AND VECTORIZATION OF TEXTURES

After synthesis, the motifs are classified into 3 main groups:

*Image of motifs before and after being vectorized

*The process of vectorizing the motifs

*Catalogues of the names, usage, ... of the motifs

APPLICATIONS ON PRODUCTS

In some initial experiments, VAN•HOA digitized the motifs of the Dao Tien people to develop a set of learning materials for locals. At the same time, VAN•HOA applies motifs to the product: backdrops, invitations, bags, gift packages, notebooks, wall paintings.
